Donations: The Armour House
THE AMOUR' HOUSE, was established in 1984 by Pastor Long. Its purpose is to assist the Shaw Community residents (DC) with food, clothing and referrals through our network established for better living. The Amour House began through Pastor Long’s Feed the Hungry efforts which still thrive today through the contributions of our generous partners. All of the Amour House functions and services have been made possible through the selfless contributions of its volunteers.
In 1993, the Amour' House was incorporated as a non-profit organization and in 1996, the Amour House was reorganized to provide an even more comprehensive program with a variety of services. The Board of Directors of Amour’House, Inc. is composed of volunteer community leaders who have demonstrated a concern and love for their community.
FEED THE HUNGRY- Our Flag ship; an effort that works all year round. Through Feed the
Hungry, we provide food and clothing to individuals and families in need. This program has sponsors
mass street feedings for the hungry, thanksgiving care packages as well as relief to single parent
households.
EDUCATIONAL ENRICHMENT – this program offers tutorial, computer, GED, and other
courses, activities, and instructions that do provide academic reinforcement, advancement,
remediation, and enrichment for the community.
COUNSELING – Through pastoral-led Christian Counseling, we have engaged individuals to
overcome issues ranging from Drug & Alcohol Addiction, Marriage & Family, Financial, Bereavement
and Conflict Resolution. Guidance is gained through both individual and group sessions. We encourage
clients to confront their problems, modify their behavior, learn to function effectively, become
self-sufficient and independent.
Education & Career Development Referral Program – Through a network of varying
professionals, we are able to direct individuals to key people and institutions that are
equipped and ready to assist our clients in obtaining their clearly defined goal. No matter
the challenge whether its finding the right college or trade school, filling out a job
application, managing a family budget or learning key skills in having a successful interview.
